It doesn't matter what kind of a stitch you are working into, you only work into the two strands at the top of the stitch.

Insert your hook into the top of the dc, yoh, pull through the stitch top (2 loops on hook),

yoh and pull through both loops on hook.

These are US instructions.

How do you make a picot stitch in dc?

A picot is a little 'bump' on a chain. It's usually made with a single crochet, but you could do it with a double crochet as well. You do it in a chain. Here is an example of one:chain 3, dc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1. The individual pattern will specify the number of chains to work on either side.

What does sc in last sc mean?

The letters sc are found in crochet instructions and are the abbreviation for "single crochet". The instructions are telling you to make a single crochet stitch in the last stitch of the row you are working.

How do you crochet with your finger?

To crochet using your fingers only, use the same procedure as when using a hook, but just use your fingers instead. You will end up using your forefinger as a "hook" holding the parts of the stitch on your finger, and "hooking" your finger to "draw through" the material to make the stitch. I would hazard that the "best" stitches to make using a finger crochet technique would be the shorter stitches--slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet. I think that with taller stitches, you might begin to not have room on your forefinger to "hold" the loops necessary to make the stitches. Look at the attached video link and see finger crocheting single crochet stitches is being done.

What does tch mean in crocheting?

Turning chain. These are the stitches you make before you turn your work to begin another row. The number varies with each stitch. These stitches bring your work to the correct height before you make additional stitches. For single crochet that tch does not count as a stitch. For double crochet and all taller stitches, it does count as a stitch.

What does shell of single crochet mean in a crochet pattern?

After a quick scan of the relatedlink (listed below), I am understanding that a shell of single crochet stitches means that a shell pattern can be made by knotting a single stitch, then skipping two stitches, then making 5 double crochets in the next stitch. Then you would skip the next two stitches and start another shell by one stitch, skip two, make 5 doubles, skip two stitches, and start another. And so on.

How do you single and double crochet?

The following is the American meaning of double crochet. The British system would call this stitch a treble. A British d.c. is an American single crochet. Double crochet is one of the three basic stitches of crochet: chain, single crochet and double crochet. To make a double crochet: 1. Put the working yarn over the hook (this is called a "yarn over"). 2. Insert the hook in the next stitch in the row below. 3. Yarn over again and pull that yarn over back out through the stitch. There are now three loops on the hook. 4. Yarn over again, and pull that yarn over through the first two looks on the hook. Two loops remain on the hook. 5. Yarn over again, and pull that yarn over through the remaining two loops. When you finish a row and turn, start a row of double crochet by first chaining three stitches. This chain-3 counts as the first stitch of the row. For a single crochet, chain only one to start a new row.

What does 'Chain 4 then make single turning chain' in a crochet pattern mean?

In crochet, because stitches have "height" (where in knitting stitch height isn't much of an issue), crocheters add chain stitches to the end of a row to add height, in order to begin the next row.So, in your instructions, chain 4, then make a single turning chain, would mean to add another chain, turn your work so that you could then begin crocheting the second row. You would then insert your hook into the second chain from the hook and crochet the next stitch (which is going to be a single crochet--sc--due to only using one turning chain)There is a standard turning chain number, depending on the stitch you are going to use in the next row. [the link shows how many turning chains for each crochet stitch].For a:slip stitch = 0 turning chainsingle crochet = 1 turning chainhalf double crochet = 2 turning chainsdouble crochet = 3 turning chainstriple crochet = 4 turning chainsand so on.You see that as the stitch height grows, so do the number of chain stitches in your turning chain.
