Near the end of the game it shows the Werehog getting the dark energy taken out of him when he looks into Dark Gaia's eye and reverts back into Sonic.

The next Sonic game codenamed 'Project Needlemouse' is coming in 2010 and will be a 2D-classic style Sonic. SEGA wouldn't have made the Hedgehog Engine just for one game, so there will definitely be more 3D Sonic games. It is unknown whether they will make a Sonic Unleashed 2 but it isn't likely given that heaps of people hate the Werehog.

Sonic Unleashed is about the adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and his newly found friend Chip, as they try to make Earth one again, as it was separated into 7 segments by the villainous Dr.Egg man. Once separated an evil force was awakened from the center of the Earth, that would bring about the planets destruction, known as Dark Gaia. Also, Chip has lost his memory, and Sonic is endeavoring to recover Chips memory. Furthermore, after the awakening of Dark Gaia, Sonic is transformed into a werehog at nigh time. The game is very fun and enjoyable. I would recommend purchasing it on the PS3 or XBOX 360, instead of the Wii or PS2.
