Boy, this frosting is sweet. We don't recommend that you eat it before a trip to the dentist. Yields about 3 cups # Step 1 Combine brown sugar and heavy cream in a medium-sized saucepan. # Step 2 Cook, stirring continuously, over medium heat, until the mixture just starts to simmer. # Step 3 Stop stirring, cover and simmer for 2 more minutes so that the sugar dissolves. # Step 4 Uncover the saucepan, and, using a wet pastry brush, wipe away any sugar crystals still clinging to the side of the pan. # Step 5 Cook the mixture, uncovered, until it reaches 238 degrees F on a candy thermometer. # Step 6 Remove from heat and add the butter without stirring. # Step 7 Set aside and let the mixture cool to a temperature of 110 degrees F, about 45 to 60 minutes. # Step 8 Add vanilla and beat until the frosting cools and has thickened enough to spread. Cream together 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup shortening, 1 cup of white sugar and some vanilla for taste.

Then scald 3/4 cup milk and cool until lukewarm...then slowly whip in to your cream mixture until very fluffy.

You can add food coloring to make it different colors too.

It's not too sweet or heavy.

Or If you just want a chocolate glaze you mix 2 tablespoons of cocoa, 2 tablespoons of water, 1 tablespoon of oil and 1 tablespoon of corn syrup together in a sauce pan until smooth. Add in 1 cup of icing sugar. Mix together and quickly spread over cake.

you use cream cheese, butter, and vanilla.

then you blend it until its pretty well blended.

next,

slowly add in 2 and 3/4 cups of powered sugar, mixing well after each addition. do not beat!

with the last bit of powered sugar the icing will get thicker and thicker. it should be very thick when your done

chill for thirty minutes before you ice the cake

This is a recipe which have been handed down to me from my Great Grandmother. I hope you enjoy it as much as my family and I have. This is a good cake for Thanksgiving and Christmas Hoildays. Step 1 Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla. Add whole eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Sift flour 2 times and then measure and sift with baking powder and salt. Add flour and milk alternately, starting and ending with flour. Pour into two 9 inch cake pans which have been greased and lined with waxed paper. Bake approximately 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Preheat oven 10 minutes. Step 2 Caramel Icing

You'll need:

3 c. granulated sugar

large pinch of baking soda

1 qt. sweet milk

1/2 stick butter

1 tsp. vanilla Step 3 Mix sugar, baking soda and milk well; cook slowly for 2 hours. It is done when a small amount forms a soft ball when dropped in cold water. When done, add butter and beat a few minutes. Set aside to cool for about 15 minutes, then add vanilla and beat until of spreading consistency. == * 1/2 lb. butter * 2 c. granulated sugar * 4 eggs * 3 c. cake flour * 1 c. sweet milk * 3 tsp. baking powder * 1/2 tsp. salt * 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

You can use unrefined icing sugar instead of white icing sugar to create a almost caramal flavoured icing. "Billingtons" is the usual brand of unrefined icing sugar in the UK. Alternatively, try using the recipe in the related links.

Do you mean buttercream?

If so, you need the smallest sized box of icing sugar (500g)and pour it in a bowl, then add 1 tbsp of milk and 1 tbsp ofvanilla extract/essence and all you need to add now is 100g of butter (softened). Now mix it with an electric Wisk/mxer and there you have it! (p.s good for an icing on cupcakes)
