The process is called taming, you do this by feeding an ocealot fish until it changes into a cat or by feeding a wolf bone until it has a collar around its neck. If you feed two of your tamed wolfs steaks, then they get a tamed baby wolf. NOTE: you cannot tame a wolf that is angry at you.
If you consider golems pets, then here's how to make them:
Snow golems are made by putting two snow blocks on top of each other, then placing a pumkin on top. It has to be in this order otherwise it won't work.
Iron golems are made by putting two iron blocks on top of each other, then placing two more iron blocks on the side of the top block so that it looks like a T. You place the pumkin on the top, and place it last.
NOTE: You make the golems by placing blocks that take up real place, not in the crafting table.
