Can this be done? Yes, it can. But don't try it. You run the risk of really hurting yourself. People don't realize that even with a barrier (thin cloth?) between the skin and the igniting flame, the gas touching the skin can ignite.

Relatively safe alternative: Collect the gas in a small jar (empty, clean medium peanut butter jar). You can do this in the bathtub. Fill the jar completely with water, and eliminate as many bubbles as you can. Put the jar under the water in front of you, and orient the jar so that it is bottom up. You must see where this is going. Seal the jar. Bring it outside, put on protective goggles and gloves, open it (it's ok if there is water in there; it's the gas that will burn) and carefully drop in a lit match.

Caution: It is the methane that burns, and methane, a colorless and odorless natural gas, is lighter than air. Also, not all people produce much methane in their flatus, so this will not work for some. Methane is highly flammable, so collecting larger quantities is really stupid-- not clever or funny. Because it is lighter than air, it will begin rising from the jar as soon as you open it. This is a good thing.
