There are a lot of small variations to making pickle wraps, but the method that I was taught requires
-small dill pickles
-cream cheese
-dried beef (They come in hanging packages, usually by the cheese isle. However, ham is delicious too!)
It usually takes 1 packet of cream cheese and 2 packets of dried beef for every 1 jar of dill pickles, unless you decide to double up on beef for every wrap (the benefits of this is it is far easier to make, as the meat doesn't tear)
To make, take one slice (or two on top of eachother) of dried beef and cover in however much cream cheese you like. Usually, the more the better!
Next, roll a pickle into the cream cheese and dried beef to make a taco-looking wrap.
Then, either leave as a full wrap or cut into bite-sized wheels. Making these is very messy and might require a few patient tries before perfecting spreading the cream cheese on without destroying the meat, but they are oh-so delicious!
The pickle tradition is that the parents hide the pickle on the Christmas tree after the family decorates it. Then, the first child to find the pickle receives an extra present or a special treat. Oddly enough when research was done to discover the origin of this tradition in Germany, most all Germans questioned about the tradition had never heard of it.
The Dancing Pickle is an internet meme of unknown origin. Some speculate it is relating to the Dancing Banana that sings "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" which is much more popular.
There are several types of pickle wraps. Most have several ingredients in common such as cream cheese, spices, and of course pickles. You can use a tortilla shell spread cream cheese on it (with or without spices added to it), then put pickles on top of the cream cheese and wrap the tortilla shell with the pickle in the middle. Finish by sliding this into rounds. This same approach can be used substituting ham or other luncheon meat for the tortilla shell.
my little pickle had a pickle that named his pickle pickle. pickle walked for a long pickle and then pickled. pickle was pickled, so he pickled. then he woke up and realized he was a dookie and not a pickle.
