It's a question of grammer.To talk about soap as a countable noun we have to refer to it as "a cake of soap" It really means just a "piece" of soap.Other examples wher we make uncountable nouns into countable nouns:a cake of soapa slice of breada bar of chocolate
In this context, the word cake simply refers to the shape of the soap, it does not mean a delicious piece of soap. It's just a (more or less) rectangular piece of soap.
