Your thermostat should also be measuring the right temperature. If it is in direct sunlight, then it will heat up and think the room is hotter than it actually is, meaning it will use cool the room below what you set it at. In the opposite direction, if it is reading cooler than the room actually is, then it will shut off the air conditioning before it gets cool enough. Place a thermometer throughout the room and let it tell you the temperature in that area and make sure that it is reading the same as the thermostat. If there's a discrepancy, try to shade the thermostat if sun is the problem or just set the temperature with the discrepancy in mind.
