If you mean an attorney in private practice, finding one who will take a criminal case pro bono will be difficult. Some may take the occasional pro bono case, but only if they are interested in it - and they don't advertise. However, if you can't afford to hire an attorney and you are facing potential jail time, you are entitled to the services of a court-appointed attorney. You must ask the court to appoint one. The court will give you a form to fill out to show your financial status.

You can find out more about court-appointed attorneys at the related link below, which has links to legal directories and legal aid offices. Most Legal Aid and Defender offices provide court-appointed attorneys. Try the links to "Find Legal Assistance" and "Free and Los-Cost Legal Services" and "Directory of Free and Los-Cost Legal Services" in the Statewide section at the top of the page. Or scroll down the page and look for links to legal assistance in your own county.

In ga when do you pay Estate Attorney?

You pay an attorney at the time you hire him/her. This is called a "retainer". There are two exceptions: When you retain an attorney for the purpose of receiving Social Security benefits, and when the attorney is working "pro bono", or without charge.

Where is a criminal pro bono attorney in co?

Private criminal pro bono attorneys are few and far between, and they don't advertise. You find them by word of mouth, and they have to be very interested in your case. If you can't afford to hire a lawyer, and your charge could result in incarceration if you are convicted, you are entitled to a Public Defender. The first related link has contact information for all Colorado Public Defender offices. I found it at the second related link, which has links to more legal services, but they are mostly for civil cases.

Do a family member have to pay a pro bono attorney?

Pro Bono means the attorney is doing the work for free, so no one will have to pay. Attorneys are not required to perform pro bono work, but many do it to volunteer their time, because they believe in helping people who cannot help themselves. Many firms also have pro bono departments, that they operate for tax benefits and public image. Attorneys working pro bono are under the same ethical obligations as they would be for their paying clients, and therefore must continue to offer their best possible legal representation to the pro bono client. To suggest that they would not work as hard for a pro bono client is a serious accusation, and the sort of allegation that could get an attorney in trouble with the bar. Typically, pro bono clients must apply with a local pro bono or legal aid project, and must meet certain income/asset requirements. If it is later found that the client hid assets or had a change in circumstances, he/she may be required to repay some or all of the volunteer's time.
