You have to have a combination. If you have a key lock you don't need a combination, all it is is a lock that says master and a key to turn it and then it opens what you have in it.

Slide the card through the slot where the lock is by the door. Set the card where the lock would be. Now open the door.

To open the lock you enter the combonation that comes with the lock and pull up on the shackel. to close it, put the shackel in the hole on the lock and push down.
A Master lock is no different from any other lock. Using shims if it's a padlock, or picking it traditionally will open a Master lock the same as any other lock. In fact, Master locks are fairly easy to pick.
If you do not have the combination, there is no way to open the lock. A master combination would defeat the purpose of having the lock.
