There is a trunk release lever located inside the left side of the glove box. It should have a shinny black handle about 2" long that, when pulled down (forward and down) should release the front hood, enough to then push the button on the hood handle itself, releasing the hood.
Wish I could add more pictures but if you go to the front of the car. There in the center underneath the trunk is a part that you can remove. Once removed you will see a hole with a plate. Use heat gun to relax adhesive. It should then just push out of the way. Use long screw driver or pry bar to move the cable until the the latch releases. After that if you look straight down into one of the small holes around the latch you will be able to see a screw used to tighten the latch wire so it doesnβt happen again :)
VW Beetle has trunk mats, liner, and carpet just like original Beetle did. Though the trunks now are similar to a hatchback.
The boot or the trunk is under the front hood of a 1967 VW Beetle. To open the hood, make sure the handle is unlocked, turn the handle to the right and lift.

Start the car with the trunk (hatchback) and driver's door open. The alarm will be deactivated. I don't know how to turn it back on.
To open the trunk on a 1971 VW beetle, there is a little handle in the glove compartment which must be pulled toward the passenger seat to allow you to pop the trunk open. Pull the lever and then push the button on the trunk (hood). It should open right up. If the lever in the glove box is broken, you'll have to use a pair of pliers to pull the cable that unlocks the trunk. Good Luck...

The fuse box on a 1974 VW Beetle is located in the dash on the driver's side. The driver's side door must be open to access the fuse box which is located in a panel just to the left of where the driver's foot controls are.
