if you have kind of thin hands you can reach in and manually move the latch to the side, otherwise I usually use either a pair of needlenose pliers or a shishkabob skewer
On a Passat, the battery is located under the hood. It is under the cowl panel and requires the removal of the battery cover to see it.
Its under the hood towards the back. Check for a red colored dipstick handle.
On the left upper corner under the hood.
Open the hood, & locate two small holes over each headlamp assemply. By inserting a philipshead screwdriver you can adjust vertical & horizontal aming of the headlight.
....on the lower left by your left leg is a handle, pull back that handle, the go to the hood and in the grill is a little plastic handle pull it up and raise your hood
There are actually two ABS fuses on a 2000 Passat. One is located under the hood and one is in the main fuse block which is under the dash.
There is an inside hood handle. The hood opens from the rear
On the 2006 passat it is under the hood in the battery box. On some passats it is located in the trunk on the left side (US driver) behind a cosmetic panel.

On the driver's side of the car, there will be a handle with a small picture of the car. The picture has the car and the hood is open. You pull that handle. You will see that the hood of the car pops up. Next, you search for a "latch" around the middle of the hood. You press up on that handle and hold it there while lifting the hood. The hood will go right up and there is your engine compartment!
Pull the leaver on the left side off the drivers foot-well it doesn't move much. Then you will be able to lift the hood enough to release the hood safety latch under the lip of the hood at the center.
Up front on top of the hood. The ornament doubles as the hood latch handle.
