It depends on the type of car. The best solution is to ensure the door is unlocked, then wedge between the door and window to make an opening. Using a rod (bent depending on the type of mechanism) attempt to manipulate the latch. Sometimes the linkage can get disconnected or break. If this fails, an auto body shop can get it open.
Inside door handle or outside door handle?
you must use a wedge on the outside above the handle to see inside and then use a coat hanger or something long to pull the handle rod
There is a door handle on the inside and the outside. Neither uses a tennis ball.
My problem was the outside handle wasnt working, and the childlock was put on, and door closed. To open a door I couldn't get open from either side, I unscrewed the handle from the inside. I pulled the rod with my fingers, and it opened, then I put the rod on the one from the inside handle. I'm still figuring out how to take the panel off, or get to where the rod is on the outside handle. I cant reach far enough to put the rod back on the handle for the outside, so any help on that would be nice!~
remove inside handle + window crank (if not power), screws in armrest, pop of trim from inside this will show you inside of door, pay attentionto direction of linkage connection and it's relationship to the latch mechanism. this link has a funky clever clip holding it to the handle, disconect it from the handle and you should be able to see the fasteners for the handle.
Inside handle, outside handle, sliding door handle?
You will need to remove the inside door panel of your Mustang. Remove the linkage from the outside door handle. Remove the outside door handle retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new outside door handle.
a house
take inside door panel off and unbolt outside door handle from the inside.
need to know how to open the door from the outside of a previa 1992 to take off the panel
go thru passenger side and open drivers door; remove inside of door panel. You will see wire rod unhooked next to left side. rehook rood and outside should wook. If this is not the problem then the outside door handle has broken and must be replaced by taking two nuts/bolts (don't remember now) from inside, unhook rod, and replace handle.
Remove the door panel. You should be able to just grab the metal wire inside the door that goes to the door latch. Give it a yank.
