On the side of the Jazz recorder (not the side that opens to show what you've recorded) there are 2 silver buttons, hold the smaller button down and with your palm push the entire side open (it's a little hard), that's where you'll find 4 triple AAA batteries. If you still can't open it then check out the videos on YouTube there are a few, I think it's called 'unboxing Jazz Video Camera. Good luck!
