To carry out the multiplication directly in the cell type in the formula preceded by = and using asterisks (*) for the multiplication symbol. For example, =240*4.

To multiply the contents of two existing cells use a formula similar to =B12*C12. To avoid mistakes click on the cell in question, rather than typing its address.

Depending on what you want to multiply...

=sum(a3*1.5) would multiply the contents of cell a3 by 1.5

=sum( a4*b16) would yield the result of multiplying a3 by whatever is in cell b16

You have to combine the numbers you would like to multiply with the "asterisk" symbol (*). For example; =F9*G5
If you want to multiply cells B3 and C12, you use the formula =B3*C12.

Start the formula in any cell with the = sign. Then use the * symbol for the multiplication sign. For example, if you want 4 times 3, you will enter =4*3 in a cell in excel.

If you want to multiply a number already in another cell, just enter that cell number instead of the actual number.
