it depends on your skill level, how much time/money you're willing to sacrafice. If this is your first lizard i would recommend getting a leopard gecko or a crested gecko. Sooner or later you might want something more challenging, you should consider getting a blue tongue skink or a bearded dragon. When you've had alot of experience taking care of these animals you coud move on to monitors. Keep in mind, these are just suggestions. There are plenty of other lizards that you should consider getting. I dont know much about reptiles besides lizards....you might want to get a snake or a turtle. Gators are for experienced owners only. Research a lot before you get your reptile whether it's a snake, turtle, or a lizard.
