If you put the two plus sides together, or the two minus sides together, then
the total voltage of the battery is zero. They won't run anything, but they'll
sure last a long time.
They have to be stacked in such a way that if they were glued together
to make a single package, then the package would have plus on one end
and minus on the other end.
