How do you play a a DVD in a PS3 with on remote?

If you have HDMI and a Sony HDTV the TV remote will work on the PlayStation 3 Slim. I don't know if the TV remote will work on other HDTVs, but I do know that only the PS3 slim has the HDMI sync. It is also possible to use the PS3 controller as a remote to play the DVD
