I have applied KM management philosophy in my work. Here is an example.

As a salesperson, I use to just push the products to my customers without thinking about their need. Since I just want to achieve my sales target, I will convince the customer to buy more than what I need. Of course this makes me happy but in many instances customer return back to me angrily saying they have bought something which they don't really need. They urge me to return their money. This made me angry. Now you can see that both the customer and me not happy.

However, all this changed when I understood the KM management philosophy which is we as business person must always be in contribution to society. Our products and services must always enhance the quality of life of our customers and not just our pockets. KM said we must identify the customers needs, recommend the right product to meet his or her needs and in fact persuade the customer to buy what can actually add value to his life. When we genuinely interested in the customers well being, we make the customers happy and in return we get our sales incentive. Now, we have both parties who are happy with the transaction. The happy customer will again return to the same sales person since he trust the sales person. A strong relationship is established and the sales person now have a life long happy customer. This customer will then recommend the sales person to his friends and relative. In summary, when we are concerned for the well being of the customer, we will be able to establish a life long customer.
