If you breathe this, the virus can enter your body. Once you have the virus on your hands, it is just a matter of a short time before most people have touched their own mucous tissue. It is then that the virus is able to attach to the cells in the mucous tissue and begin the process of reproduction called the Lytic Cycle. ∙ 16y agoWhile some people think you catch a cold by being in the cold too much, colds are actually caused by a virus. It's not being in the cold that causes a cold, but being exposed to enough of the virus that you get a cold.

It is very easy for the virus to get onto your hands, and from there into your eyes or mouth. Coming in close contact, eating or drinking after a contagious person can also cause infection.

∙ 15y agoThere's no surefire way other than complete isolation, but assuming you want to continue a normal life, washing your hands regularly, avoiding close contact with people who have colds and making sure your immune system is strong with a healthy diet and vitamins are probably your best bets.

∙ 13y agoBelieve it or not but you can catch a cold through, doorknobs, drinking and eating after someone, and being around someone that coughs or sneezes all over you! I don't think you get it by going out in the Cold Weather!
