That would be the trigger on most firearms, the slide on an automatic pistol, and the hammer on either an automatic pistol or a revolver. You also pull back the bolt on a rifle, and sometime the cocking mechanism on a shotgun.
I could not find any 380 cal. pistol going back to 1887 ??? are you sure it's not a 38 cal. revolver ???? check writting on top of barrel ......................
The pistol was the side arm weapon for a variety of personnel during World War One. When war began there were three types of pistol in general use. there were revolvers, clip-loaded automatics and the so-called 'blow-back' models. The most famous wartime pistol was the German Luger. Not so far behind is the British Webley. The United States had 3 pistol models. The Colt 45, Colt revolver and a Smith and Wesson revolver.
Check YouTube for Marksman Repeater, I have found several that show you how to take it apart and put it back together
The basic disassembly: Make sure the gun is unloaded and the magazine removed. Pull back on the "slide" and lock it back with the safety. Then grasp the "hammer" and breech piece and squeeze the "hammer" back and down while turning the breech piece to the right (clockwise). The breech piece can be removed to the rear. Grasp the slide and release the safety, easing the slide forward and off the frame. The recoil spring and barrel can now be removed. Further disassembly is not recommended.
You need a gunsmith
Yes, but will not function.

You will need a gunsmith to show you.
This is NOT a cop-out! It depends on the situation, the person you are and the person or thing from whom you are defending yourself. In the hands of a cool, collected pistoleer, a .22 cal , 2" barreled semi-auto pistol, or revolver can be a deadly protector. In the hands of an excited, inexperienced amateur, a .50 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver would be inadequate. That said, from the standpoint of a generally effective weapon, in the hands of a reasonably well trained person, anything from a .32 H &R Magnum revolver up through a .357 revolver, or semi-automatic pistol, will provide reasonable protection, for one's life, or virtue. I have carried a .45 Colt, or LLama pistol through two wars and a career in law enforcement and security. It will stop anything on this continent, man or beast; however, it is a large and heavy pistol. It is concealable, but not very and it certainly will make your jacket or pants sag on one side or the other. My back-up pistol is a thirty year old Harrington and Richardson .32 cal revolver. It is the smallest caliber I would use to defend myself from a determined aggressor. I truly hope that helps you...
