I had the same problem. Removed lock mechanism, cleaned, oiled and replaced. A fiddly job as bits fell off - it had seen better days. Once all back together it locks if I do the following: Get out. Close door. Lock door. Open door. Close door.

How do you change a door lock on 106?
I assume you are referring to the lock barrel... Remove the inside trim panel from the door Reach inside the door and find the back of the door lock barrel, you will feel a metal clip on the opposite side of the barrel to the edge of the door (ie. on the windscreen side of the lock). Simply pull the clip towards the windscreen until it comes off (you will have to pull fairly hard), then you can withdraw the lock from the outside of the car. To put it back, slip the lock back through the door from outside, then slide the spring clip back to hold the barrel in place.
How to get door locks out of the locked position when the door is open?
Is it the lock button on top of the door or the latch that holds the door shut? If its the latch just pull door handle then flick catch back round with a screwdriver. Its a C lock that spins round when door shuts locking the door in place, when handle is pulled, the C lock is released and spins back with the effort of the door opening. Hope this helps

Sit in the driver's seat and lock all the doors. Unlock and open the driver's door. Insert the key into the ignition and remove it (don't turn it...just remove it). Lock and unlock the driver's door 5 times (I'm almost certain you use the MANUAL lock switch again, but if this sequence fails to work, try again with the power switch). Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position. Remove the key. The driver's door will now lock and unlock itself one time. Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob for at least 1 second. Close the driver's door. Open the driver's door. Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob for at least one second. Close the driver's door. Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob. The door will lock. Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob again. The door will unlock. You should be all set.

Thank you for looking I fixed the problem after I posted the question. Took needle nose pliers and forced the cable on the lock lever to the lock position and heard a click, presto problem fixed. You should be able to reach the child lock around the side of the seat back. Get in the back seat.Go to the height of the lock on the seat back. Pull the seat back away from the door. You should be able to see the child lock. You may need a screwdriver to trip the lock. I know this works, I've done it several times on my 92 Prism (Toyota). You can locate it easier by looking at the other door. I also did it in less than a minute. This is how you can open it, its so easy.

On the inside upper frame of the rear passanger door when open there are 5 bronze pegs that make contact with the door when closed, if these become dirty the electrical contact will not lock the rear door. Take fine grade sandpaper or steelwhool and shine them up, close the door and try it again.
