Pick the Save As option on the File menu. When the dialog box opens, click on the Tools menu at the top corner of that dialog box, and then pick General Options. Type a password in the Password to Open box to set one for the spreadsheet. Most important of all: Do Not Forget It!!!

You can add a password to Excel files. You do it through the options when you are saving the file.
