At the top select insert then header. It will only show page numbers, but once you set that, you can click on it and type in your last name just make sure you select the right alignment.
Word documents.
Word 2007 introduced a new document type; .docx. So you can search for *.docx to locate Word 2007 documents.

WordPad does not have headers and footers. WordPad is not a full word processor so it lacks some features that you will find in a word processor.
Whether the border is positioned in relation to the page or text. The measurements for the margins for the border. Whether to surround the headers and footers.
They are named with a .doc extension in versions up to Word 2003 and .docx extension since version Word 2007.
.docx is the default file format for documents from Word 2007 onward.
