I would check, in order: Dead battery Poor battery connection Poor starter connection Starter solenoid Starter motor
Have the alternator tested.

You can open the trunk and door with a key and then pull the hood lever when you have access to the inside of car.
In a 1997 Lincoln Town Car : ( BCI group size 65 ) It either came from the factory with the standard battery ( Motorcraft BXT-65-650 ) which is a 650 cold cranking amp battery or the optional / heavy duty battery ( Motorcraft BXT-65-750 ) which is a 750 cold cranking amp ( CCA ) battery
It is possibley your alternator or battery
At the front of the engine compartment on the right side ( passenger side )
down on the passenger side engine or follow the positive side on your battery
Replace the plug wires
On the passenger side, behind the battery, above the fender.
According to the 2002 Lincoln Town Car owners manual it came from the factory with either the ( Motorcraft BXT-65-650 or the BXT-65-750 battery ) * That's BCI group size 65 and either 650 or 750 cold cranking amps *
short circuit , or the battey needs replacing it may not hold a charge
