Careful on this if you've never done it. You need a good set of gauges, and depending on the year, you will need to know if your vehicle uses R-12 or R-134. You can't buy R-12 without a license, but you can change to R-134 buy dumping the system (whole other story) and changing the fittings on the high and low pressure hook-ups. If you're trying to just add freon, you can only add it on the low pressure, or suction side (the big hose) while it's running. DO NOT try to add to the high pressure, or discharge side (small hose) while running, or you can blow the can up in your hand. I gotta advise you to have a professional do this if you're not experienced. Just because it's not cooling, doesn't mean it needs freon. You can over-charge it, stick the expansion valve, and it won't cool. Adding more freon will just add to the problem. Also, if it's empty of freon, you have a leak, and that needs to be repaired first. Then the orifice needs to be changed, then a vacuum pulled on the system, then charge it. Also, you have to "jump" the low pressure switch to trick the compressor into locking the clutch to pull freon in. And, that's after you have given a liquid charge to the high pressure, or discharge side, WHILE IT'S NOT RUNNING. Again, too much info for a beginner. It's dangerous business. Leave it to the professionals.

1994 TBird has an R134 system. You can buy charge kits at any auto parts store. How do you put freon in a 1994 Ford Thunderbird Lx coupe so that the air conditioner can work?
You need a licensed mechanic/service technician to replace or otherwise service air conditioning systems that use freon.
Boil water to cook. Freeze water to put into drinks. Boil Freon in an air conditioner to cool a building, Condense Freon in a Heat pump to heat your house.
Chances are your leaking freon. There may be a leak in one of the seals.
Freon is a brand name for various air conditioner refrigerants. Make sure you have the right refrigerant for the vehicle. Refrigerant is added to the low pressure port of the system, which is located 6 inches from the accumulator.
This is something that needs to be done by a professional, because the a/c system needs to have the freon removed prior to taking the lines loose. They can remove the freon and store it while the hose is being replaced and then put the same freon back in.
