In the Units tab, change the player to GAIA. Go to the others tab. Scroll down and you will see gold mine and stone mine.
Obtaining gold and stone is the same as Age of Empires 2 without the expansion. You will have to mine it from gold or stone patches with a villager and have that villager place the stone or gold into a Mining Camp or the Town Center. Also, you can cheat for stone and gold by typing 'rock on' or 'robin hood'

If you are referring to the AOE II Gold Edition then yes. The Gold edition is simply a package containing AOE II and the Conquorers Expansion so they are both the same program.
Age of Empires I covers the era between the stone age and classical period. Age of Empires II cover the medieval era for Europe and Asia. Age of Empires III covers the colonisation of America. There's also Age of Empires Online, which focuses on Greek and Egyptian history; and Age of Mythology, set during the bronze age, but focuses on mythology rather than history.
