Can you use a power steering pump for a hydraulic pump for hydraulic cylinders?

can i use power steering fluid in a top motor pump

What kind of pump are there in steering system?

Most power steering systems are hydraulic and use a hydraulic pump that is driven by a belt, similar to a fan belt.

Can it hurt the steering pump by putting oil in it?

YES. your power steering pump is a hydraulic pump that pushes fluid through lines to make your wheels move. hydraulic fluid such as ATF or POWER STEERING FLUID is good for your power steering pump. it is a PUMP after all. OIL has the purpose of lubricating, and has very different qualities than hydraulic fluid. DO NOT put OIL in your power steering pump... put POWER STEERING FLUID or if you can't get power steering fluid AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID will do...

How does hydraulic steering work?

Firstly you need reservoir for hydraulic oil from there goes one line to inlet port of hydraulic pump (which is driven by a engine or electric motor) then the high pressure port from hydraulic pump goes to hydraulic steering orbitrol, which is connected by a shaft to a steering wheel and has usually 4 ports. One port is connected to a pressure port from hydraulic pump (high pressure). Second port is return line to a reservoir (lower pressure). The other two ports are lines that goes to a hydraulic steering cylinder (which delivers the turning force to steering wheels). Operation: When the hydraulic pump is running and has pressure on outlet port the hydraulic oil flows through hydraulic steering orbitrol and back to reservoir. And when you apply turns to a steering wheel the hydraulic steering orbitrol redirects specific amount of hydraulic pressure to a hydraulic steering cylinder and there you have a turning force. -_- max

Do bleed brake pump when you change steering pump?

Yes, This is part of hydraulic system

What is the output of a Power steering pump?

The output of a power steering pump is the high pressure side which goes to the steering box. It creates hydraulic pressure which makes steering much easier.

What is the use for a power steering pump?

A power steering pump is an essential part of the steering mechanism of your car. This is run directly from the engine (via a pulley system) and provides the hydraulic power for the steering system.

When does a car need power steering fluid?

I'll be civilized and answer this. The power steering pump is a hydraulic pump that needs fluid to pump so it can move the power steering gear. Simpler said no fluid no power steering. Hope you are not offended.

What if your steering wheel is hard to move when you are driving what could be wrong?

"MOST" cars have power steering that relys on a hydraulic pump driven by the Engine via a belt. If the hydraulic fluid leaks out, the belt breaks, or the pump wears out the car will be hard to steer

Where are the fuses for the power steering on a Saturn ion?

No, the power steering is a mechanical system that operates on hydraulic pressure. The hydraulic pressure is generated by the power steering pump that is attached to the front of the engine and receives it's power from the serpentine belt.

Where is the steering wheel oil tank?

On most cars with hydraulic power steering the pump is driven by a drive belt or by a serpentine belt. Follow the belt and it will go to the pump. The resivoir is located on top or near the pump.

Where is your powersteering pump on your 2000 Infiniti G20?

The power steering pump on a 2000 Infiniti G20 is located on the front, right side of the engine. It provides the hydraulic power to aid in steering.
