Well, you first want to find out if that's the reason you're not getting any cold air. While that is a possibility, it could also be because of bad air flow through the condenser, blockage in the condenser, problems with the thermal expansion valve (if so equipped) or a number of other reasons. You should take it to a shop and have the technicians do a system performance test to determine the reason.. unless you know how to diagnose it yourself with a manifold gauge set. Then, even if it is because of low refrigerant, you want to ensure that you don't have a leak, or else you'll be going through this constantly. And that's usually done either with dye or with a halogen sniffer.
That's what I'd recommend. Even if you're fairly certain there isn't a leak, and you just want to charge the system, you still want to be careful not to overcharge the system, and you also want to ensure that you have the correct amount of compressor oil. This requires machines that a backyard mechanic isn't going to possess.

Sounds like you've verified the AC functions - so it's a matter of the temperature controls. On a Windstar, this is controlled by a small motor that moves the temperature blend door. This motor is virtually guaranteed to fail. That's the bad news, the good news is that it's an easy and not expensive fix!See "Related Questions" below for more about doing the job yourself.
It's the blend door on the HVAC box. It's what controls what temp air comes through the vents.
as in rains when summer comes they heat up which makes them useless. So try to recharge them.
sounds like your thermostat wires are touching somewhere.. maybe a nail was hammered into it or possibly something chewed on it..
If you need to add refrigerant, your system has a leak. Could be a small leak, could be a large leak. Best bet would be to purchase some R134a with leak seal/o-ring reconditioner. You can get a kit with a recharging hose.Make sure your car is running with the air conditioner on full blast. Connect the hose for the kit to the suction line (NOT the high pressure side) located on the passenger side of the vehicle.Basically follow the instructions on the can. You may need more than one can of R134a to notice a difference. If the compressor is not taking refrigerant...the pressure may have gotten so low that it's off on a low pressure switch. In this case, I'd suggest finding someone that knows more than you and ask for their help.Another thing to check is the temperature blend door actuator motor.See "Related Questions" below for more
