Dear! Jinns do have a being. They were created much before the creation of Hazrat Adam (AS). Satan was a Jinn. Having belief in the being of jinns is not un-Islamic but true Muslims care a fig for jinns. A true MUslim enjoys much more powers than a jnn. First surrender yourself to Allah Almighty then see how all His creatures become your slave.
Anyhow, as for as you question is concerned, recognizing a jinn is not so difficult. No jinn is supposed to walk in the streets so deliberately as the humans walk. They live away from human habitats. If perchance a Jinn is fond of a person and comes in his way, it is the sweet will of the jinn to let his friend recognize him. If you happen to see him, he will not wink his eyes, his eyes may be without eye-lashes, his hands will be a bit extra longer, his face will be very mysterious and awe-inspiring. You may fall flat on ground if you recognize a jinn.
