. Lift up the forward edge of the passenger flooring a little bit to expose the vertically installed fuel-switch connector. It is a black plastic-bodied switch with a gray connector at the bottom.
3. Slip a thin screwdriver under the thin gray connector latch to lift it off of the tab that is keeping it it place. As you lift the latch off of the black plastic switch, push down on the gray connector.
4. Unscrew your gas-tank cap to relieve any possible pressure, then reinstall the cap.
5. Start your Ranger and let it run until it the motor quits, usually about 2-10 seconds.
6. Crank the engine over for about 10 more seconds.
on my 1994 ford ranger, i just removed the holding rings on each end of the in and out line very slowly until the pressure was released. you will get a bit of gas spray but nothing serious. hope this helps. fordman.
Find the fuel pump inertia (aka emergency shut-off) switch located behind the passenger side kick panel and press the button to disable it. crank the engine a few rounds to relieve the pressure. change the fuel filter and reset the inertia switch.

Access the emergency fuel shut-off switch (aka inertia switch) located behind the passenger side kick panel and press the red button on it to de-activate the fuel pump. Crank the engine to relieve the fuel pressure in the line. Do you whatever it is you need to do and then press the red button on the inertia switch again to activate the fuel pump.
