Citroen Picasso C3 Gear Knob Replacement
Instructions based on my 2011 Exclusive model. Yours may vary slightly.
I take no responsibility for any damage you may make. If in doubt, ask a Citroen Dealer to do this for you ~ cost about £30 labour.
Tools needed: thin, but wide bladed instrument such as a screwdriver; hammer; small block of wood; scissors or sharp knife.
1 Using a thin screw driver, remove the plastic bezel around the base of the gear lever & leather/cloth boot. Take great care not to scratch anything! I suggest starting at the 2 o'clock position & gently working clockwise. This is because there are plastic lugs either side of the 12 o'clock position & you don't need to disturb those. With the blade under the edge, you will feel obstructions every so often. Move the blade on past these as you carefully ease the plastic bezel slightly upwards. As you work along, the bezel will lift off completely. Notice the 2 lugs at the 12.00 position ready for when you replace it. Put the bezel on one side.
2 The leather/cloth boot surrounding the lever is attached at the bottom to another plastic fixing. Ease this upwards being careful not to detach the boot from it.
3 Carefully pull the boot upwards over the gear lever so that it is turned inside out. Notice that you can now see a cable tie securing the boot to the base of the knob. Leave this for the moment.
4 Many vehicle gear knobs unscrew. This does not! It is a square tapered fitting that needs to be pulled straight upwards. You will need a lot of force so take not to let it fly up & hit you in the face! You may find it helpful, to place a small block of wood under the bottom lip of the knob & then whack this upwards with a hammer, to try to loosen it but there is very little room so take care if you do this. You need to pull the knob up using more force than you think it needs but it will come. If at first you don't succeed, try again but take care!
5 You should now have the metal gear lever with a plastic moulding on the end of it. The detached gear knob should have the inside out boot covering it. Note the position of the boot in relation to the gear position markings on the top of the knob. Using a sharp knife and taking great care not to cut the boot, remove the cable tie & then ease the boot down off the base of the old knob.
6 Insert the new knob into the boot & locate the replacement cable tie around the base. DO NOT fully tighten it yet. Leave it just loose enough to rotate the knob if necessary.
7 Place the knob over the lever making SURE that it is facing in the right direction! Fold the boot back down so that it is the right way out again & check that it is in the correct position compared with the knob. Pull the boot up again to enable you to pull the cable tie tight. Cut off the excess.
8 Push the boot & the plastic fixing into place. Check everything is as it should be. Using your fist or a cushioned block of wood, give the knob a firm push downwards over the lever. Gently try pulling it up again to check that it has seated properly.
9 Put the plastic bezel in position by hooking the 2 lugs in place at the 12.00 position. Then gently ease the whole thing back down all the way round.
Job done!

C3 Picasso 2010 air filter change is not a big deal, no need to remove the wipers or drop the engine! First remove all of the plastic air and turbo intake tubes and the small engine cover, unclip the electical connection. Unscrew the three 4mm allen bolts on the top of the air filter housing (they are on the front and right hand side), I used a small 1/4" socket set driver, remove the air filter cover and remove the old air filter. Replace filter, refit cover and everything else in reverse order. Job done!
