Download and run firefox to protect your computer from future spyware attacks and pop ups which are coming in through internet explorer (Trojan downloaders, win32 ).Browser attacks aren't easy to spot because they piggyback on legitimate traffic that doesn't exhibit many obvious warning signs

1. Run Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)

2. Run the vundo and combo fix

3. Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

4. Run the anti spyware removal programs spybot

5 Run Superantispyware

6. Run a complete scan with free curing utility Dr.Web CureIt!

if they are in your "restore" file, you will have to remove same via MS-DOS, by going into DOS before windows starts up, then use your DOS commands, such as CD, del, etc. Or if you have recently completed a "restore to an earlier date" on your computer, once you know all of the virsus/trojans have been removed from your vital files, pick a new restore date, and reboot, they will be gone from your restore file.

Go to Start /Control Panel /Folder Options (click the View tab)and uncheck both the *Hide file extension for known file types & *Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)-boxes, then OK yourself out.

After unchecking the hidden files boxes delete the Temp file from the _Restore folder (as these keep putting the same files back into your system).

I got Trojan Horse Dialer on my Windows ME system and had a horrible time deleting the temp files it put on my C drive. It kept replicating files and was using up the computer's resources! I read the answers on this sight last night, but nothing worked, I guess because most advice is written for XP. I played around a little bit this morning, using parts of everyones advice. This is what worked: Select START->SETTING->CONTROL PANEL->SYSTEM->PERFORMANCE->FILE SYSTEM->TROUBLESHOOTING. On the troubleshooting list check "Disable system restore" and APPLY. Your computer will ask if you want to restart--say YES! On reboot, your computer will dump all of the junk from the _Restore file (which is where Trojan Horse hides!)and you get rid of the unwanted Trojan temp files!!! Yeah! After your system reboots, check the C drive contents using Windows Explorer. _Restore\Temp should be empty. At this point, to be safe, I ran AVG AND emptied the Recycle Bin, then rebooted again. When you run AVG, watch for unusual file names. I noticed an empty "enhanced data" file in my regular temp file, and another file I had deleted just a few days ago reappeared. Deleted both of those and rebooted again, just in case that sneaky Trojan Horse was hiding! Once you're sure your files are clean, you can enable System Restore again. Good luck! Hopes this helps others. uccimomma
