If you only have dirt particles in the water you can go with a 20" Big Blue whole house filtration unit. They usually come with sediment filters and in your case if the dirt is very fine you can get a 1 micron filter and that should remove it all but if there is alot you can go with a dual stage and put either a carbon filter or another sediment.

If you think about it, you need to remove the big stuff before you can remove the smaller stuff. By putting pebbles on top, it will filter out things like other rocks, twigs and the like. The only factory equipped fuel filter on a 69 is in the carb. Remove the fuel line from the carb. Then remove the front piece on the carb.....takes a fairly big wrench or crescent. The fuel filter is mounted inside.
