You don't have to disconnect the A/C compressor, but you do have to unbolt it and drop it out of the way. There are four bolts facing the front of the car holding the compressor in place.
Nissan is a piece of CRAP!! I've had soo many problems with my 2006 Altima 2.5s! O2 Sensor, crankshaft, oil and radiator fluid evaporating(no leaks)! Car hestiation, bucking, speed goes down just a mess! Nissan knows that their 2000-2006 was a recall, but the insist on selling and telling people they have good cars or that people are taking care of the car! A friend of mine also has a nissan altima her car stopped on the intersection with her 2yr old in the car.She almost died that day, cars had to jumped over in order to NOT hit them! She has been to Nissan several time abt this problem! I tell everyone DO NOT buy a nissan altima or any other car from the Dishonest Company! GoodLuck hun...I wish I could sue their A****!
Yes. You could get over 200000 miles easy. They were reliable cars but like any other car if you are buying used it all depends on how well it was taking care of by the previous owners.
First remove the negative battery cable from battery. Then get under truck and remove the wires from the starter solenoid, making sure to mark them to which terminal each goes to. Then remove the two bolts holding the starter and then lift out the starter and solenoid. That is how hard it is.

I can't speak for a 2001, but on my 1998 I removed them through the trunk. Pretty quick and easy that way, just a few screws in each. *Edit* The 2001 Altima GXE Special Edition The way that I had to go about accessing the rear speaker housing was through the back seats. I actually am going to be replacing mine tomorrow, and taking a tutorial video on how to replace them. watch youtube.com/ohnoesitsroy for the video to be uploaded in the next few days. Try to use the Nissan speaker adapters plugs so you don't need to cut wires and mess up the electric system, you can get those from eBay or amazon.
