Vista can be installed on a laptop no problem provided the laptop meets the system specs needed to run Vista.
Go to set a wireless connection (in vista operating) and go to set adhoc computer (computer to computer) than type your network name, than in the second choose select on the no authored (unsecured) , then select on save network and than click on next. On another operating system like XP open the wireless then the vista laptop which is the admin will appear on your XP laptop, then wait at lest three minute because the XP laptop will take an IP from the vista laptop (will appear requiring network in XP & identifying in vista laptop)
Theoretically you can, but you have to make sure that your laptop is able to handle Vista requirements.
