You must remove the evaporator case from behind the glovebox and disassemble it. The expansion valve is mounted to the evaporator.
It is attached to the back wall of evaporator. You have to remove the glove compartment, blower unit and evaporator to get access to the expansion valve.
You have to remove the blower motor and housing . Also remove glove box to see what you are doing. Re move the side cover on the evaporator and unbolt evaporator on engine side 2 bolts then pull out evaporator and expansion valve together
Front a/c valve is in the line to the evaporator core, and the rear a/c valve is connected to the line of the rear evaporator core behind the left panel air intake behind the rear seat.
The expansion valve is located in front of the evaporator core. You must remove the housing to access it.
You will have to remove the evaporator from underneath the dash on the passenger side. If you have the right side tools it is not a difficult job. This will require you to first evacuate your A/C system. I would recommend changing the evaporator along with the expansion valve.
Attached to Evaporator. You have to remove the evaporator from inside the car to get to it. A pain.
Expansion valve is located on the A/C Evaporator Core. Most of the times you have to remove the whole dash to reach it/ replace it. Good luck.
In the rear of the vehicle attached to the rear evaporator, you will need to remove the complete assembly to replace the expansion valve......
How to remove the evaporator on your Honda1-evacuate ac system of 134a,2-discoonect ac lines at firewall,3-remove glove box door and glove box4-Disconnect fan motor and remove5-disconnect all connectors on evaporator housing6-remove bolts holding evaporative housing to firewall7-remove evap. housing from vehicle8-remove screws holding evap. housing together9 remove evaporator from housing10-remove expansion valve from evap.Reintsall in reverse order
The expansion valve is located with the evaporator. You have to evacuate the system then disconnect the ac lines at the firewall. Then remove the glove box, undo connectors, and then remove the bolts that hold the evaporator case to the HVAC assembly. Slide the case out and then remove the clips and screws that hold the upper and lower halves together. Once you get it apart you will see the expansion valve. Also, take note of the electrical temperature probe's location in the evaporator. When you replace the valve and wind the thermostatic bulb's line around the evaporator's pipe take some black tar tape and wrap the expansion valve and lowside pipe. Doing that will make it more efficient. You should also replace the receiver drier if you hadn't already done so. Don't forget that you will have to add some oil to the system for the components you replace.
You need to recover the refrigerant. Remove the evaporator case and disassemble it. Replace the valve and recharge the system. It is best to install a receiver drier at the same time.
