How do you remove a 1988 Saab 9000 alternator?

If it is like a 1989 saab 9000, you remove the front passenger wheel, remove all the plastic from the wheel well, and the alternator should be rite there. You can also get to it by removing the manifold, which allows much easier access to the alternator, but then you need a new manifold gasket.

How to you change an alternator in a 1991 Saab 900s?

To access the alternator, you have to remove the A/C compressor. First you must remove the alternator belt by removing the adjustment bolt on the alternator. Move the alternator as far down as you can. This will give you access to the lower bolt on the A/C mounting bracket. Remove the A/C belt. You may have to remove the idler pulley to do this. Remove the three bolts (probably Allen head) that mount the A/C compressor bracket to the engine and swing the A/C compressor off to the right side of the engine compartment. Do NOT disconnect the A/C hoses. You should now be able to remove the bolt(s) that hold the alternator in place. Assembly is reverse of disasssembly.

How much should it cost to replace Saab 9-5 alternator?

I have been quoted $725 to replace the alternator on my 2000 9-5 by a local independent Saab mechanic. This seems rather exorbitant to me - the part appears to cost $200 - $300. Unfortunately I don't have much choice - I drove it there on an overnight battery charge... for 200-300, its a rebuilt...a new alternator is around 4 to 5 hundred, plus at least 2 hours to put it in so that price is about right

How do you replace an alternator on a 2002 Saab 9 5?

I recently replaced the alternator on my wife's 2000 Saab 9-5 sedan. It has a 3.0 liter V-6 engine. I have listed the following steps. !. Remove the negative battery cable from the battery. 2. Loosen the right front wheel lug nuts. 3. Jack up the automobile and place jack stands in appropriate positions. Leave room to access the alternator from underneath the car. 4. Complete removal of the right front wheel. 5. Remove the right front lower splash shield. 6. Release tension on the serpentine belt at the tensioner. 7. Slip the belt off of the tensioner and the alternator. 8. Attach an engine hoist at the front of the engine. This is a transverse mounted engine and the hoist will need to be attached near the engine mount located at the right front fender inner fender. 9. Remove the top portion of this mount. 10. Loosen the rear engine mount at the firewall. This mount is slotted and will permit you to pull the engine forward toward the right front corner of the engine compartment. This will give access to the alternator. 11. Remove the two bolts that attach the serpentine belt tensioner and remove the tensioner. 12. Remove the top alternator mounting bolt. Do this from the engine compartment side. 13. Remove the lower alternator mounting bolt. Do this from underneath the car. 14. Turn the rear of the alternator up to access and remove the electrical leads. 15. Remove the alternator from the engine compartment. 16. Install the new alternator in the REVERSE ORDER.
