With great difficulty, you need to jack the car up then remove the drivers side wheel and engine splashguard, remove the alternator belt by undoing the tensioner pulley, then the best way to go forward is to remove the bolts for the alternator then remove the alternator wiring and plug then the bracket that holds the alternator on it is a fiddly job and not one to be taken too lightly, once you remove the bracket you have to wiggle the alternator down the way and remove it from underneath the car, you should have removed the battery neg terminal before starting this job and also the use of axle stands is obligatory hope this is of help all told around 2hrs for a competent mechanic
Go to auto zone and have the alternator checked out. even a new one can be bad.
Remove and bring to an auto parts store that is equipped to check
The alternator may be failing. Remove it and have it tested at an Auto Parts store.
Either drive to your local auto parts store and have them test it in the vehicle or you can remove the alternator and take it to your local auto parts store and they can bench test it for you.
Auto Zone has a free helpful manual on this but we found that it was easier to remove the alternator by removing the passager tire and going through that way. Then it just a couple bolts to remove.
Remove the neg. lead from the battery Remove the clamp that connects the power steering pump pressure hose to the valve cover(top of engine where you pour oil) Push pressure hose to the side Loosen the bolt attached to the alternator which will allow you to relieve tension to the drivebelt Push the alternator forward toward the engine block Remove the oil dipstick tube bracket and dipstick from the engine(held on by a top mounted bolt on the dipstick) Remove positive electrical connector from alternator Remove remaining alternator mounting bolts and pull out alternator Install in reverse of removalMAKE SURE NEW ALTERNATOR HAS ALL OF THE CONNECTIONS AS YOUR OLD ONE!!!The instructions for Changing the alternator on a Galant V6 is WRONG in the Haynes auto manual. The dipstick is not in the way & neither is the bracket for the power steering pressure hose. My daughter's Galant has an aluminum bracket that has the electrical harness attached to it that is in the way.

We went to auto zone and they gave us a free manual on how to do it. It's pretty easy if you take off the front passanger tire.
Possibly and it can be the drive belt making a noise. It you hear a whine it is likely the alternator bearings are shot. You can remove the alternator and have it tested at most auto parts stores, after you make sure the belt is good.
on the car its fairly simple disconnect battery. use 3\8 drive ratchet put in the auto tensioner arm for serpentine belt and lift up remove belt. remove bolts going to wish bone mounts at front of engine. tilt engine forward. disconnect wire harness to alternator{should be 10mm} remove bolt from bracket at bottom of alternator. tilt alternator up and remove bolt from bottom back. hope this helped.
# Disconnect negative battery cable # Detach the electrical connectors from the alternator # Loosen the alternator adjustment and pivot bolts and detach the drivebelt # Remove the adjustment and pivot bolts and separate the alternator from the engine # If you are replacing the alternator take it with you to auto parts store to get it tested to make sure it needs to be if you havent yet plus get core credit and make sure new alternator looks the same
Auto Zone has instrustions on how to this. We however found it was easier to remove the passanger tire and go that way instead of removing the blets.
