1. Buy a Haynes manual. It will make your life easier. 2. Remove the door panel & trim according to the Haynes manual. 3. Unscrew the inner metal panel from the door, but do not remove. I'm talking about the one that has about 9 x 7mm screws, the one the door lock mechanism is bolted to. 4. Unscrew the 4 hex-head screws that hold the Bose speaker enclosure to the car door. 5. Disconnect the wiring harness from the Bose unit and remove the 4" Bose Speaker from the housing. This is the easy part, so far. 6. The Bose speaker enclosure is black plastic, about 10" wide by 12" tall, and about 3" deep. Use a flat-head screwdriver to GENTLY pry the enclosure free of the door's inner surface AFTER removing the four screws (step 4). You will need to move it around inside the door and remove the screws that hold the two halves of the enclosure together. After you have all (about 10 or so) screws removed, the two halves will separate easily. Remove the thinner half by cutting it in half with a jig saw. You can cut the housing apart through the hole normally covered by the factory speaker grille. The rear half is larger, and will have to be cut into 3 or more pieces. I used some vise-grip pliers to break pieces off. All of these pieces will slip out of the door, provided you removed the bolts holding the inner metal panel in place. With this piece free, you have room to work. 7. Using 1/2" plywood, cut housings for the new speakers. I used 6.5" speakers with full depth baskets, but you can fit larger ones in the door. There is about 4" or more of room between the door's inner surface and the window's "down" position. Cut a hole in the plwood which will allow you to insert the speaker's cone and screw it down in place using wood screws. You may need to use some strips of plywood or strips of wood blocks as shims in between the door and the plywood. Check all fitments before drilling holes in the door. If you're putting in 6x9s you may need to slip the housing you have created inside the door, then slip the speaker in, then connect the speaker to the factory wiring, then screw it to the plywood and finally secure the plywood in place. (you will need to splice the wiring; the wires for the speaker are not the black/orange; refer to the Haynes manual for a wiring diagram). 1. Buy a Haynes manual. It will make your life easier. 2. How do you remove the factory speakers from your 92 grand am se they are the premium speakers if that matters?

Remove the dash pad, then remove the speakers from the dash frame. For the rear speakers, open the trunk and remove the brackets, that hold the speakers in place. not for the back speakers ..you have to remove the lower rear seat then remove the seat belts then the rear seat back then remove the header panels in the back seat then remove the deck cover ..the rear speakers are bolted in from the top down under the rear deck cover....and the front speakers i believe are mounted in the door panels in the front doors ..you have to remove the door panels to remove them .some do have them in the dash also if they are there u do as the person stated before me.
