This works for a 2003 Blazer, they may be the same.
You will actually have to remove the head light assembly to access the bulbs. The procedure will not throw off the headlight aiming a bit and it is real easy.
If you look at the top of the radiator support just above where the head lights are, you sill see two black plastic pieces that lean in toward the engine compartment on each side. They are about an inch, or so, wide. Just pull/lever them up and the head lamp will pop out for access to the bulbs.
You will need to pop out the center grill and then on each headlight unit there are two tabs (one on each side of unit) that you need to pull up. After that carefully pull out the headlight unit and remove the wires that are for the lights. To change the bulb remove the large rubber cap and twist the bulb holder to remove the bulb from headlight unit.
on top of the headlights, there are 2 plastic slide pins. pull up on these pins and the headlight housing will come out so you can change the bulbs. when putting back on, push in on headlight housing and put the pins back down, to hold it in place.
1. First get a bulb of right specifications. I bought mine at Kragen Autoparts. 2. Open the hood, locate two tabs on top of headlight assembly. They are made of black hard plastic. Gently wiggle the tabs and pull them up. The headlamp assembly should snap out from its mounting on three knobs. Do not mess around with the three knobs that fit into the key holes on the tab strips as this may change the headlamp setting. 3. Once you have the assembly out, you can access the bulb holder on the back. Hold the base of the lamp and turn it counter-clockwise to detatch it from the assembly. Then pull the bulb out from its socket. 4. Handle the new bulb carefully, using a piece of cloth, avoid contact with your hand. Push it to the socket, insert the bulb into the reflector case and turn the base clockwise. 5. Insert the three knobs into the key holes on the tab strips, and push the tabs down. This sould secure the assembly in place.
Depending on which side (driver/passenger), you will need to remove the airbox on the passenger side to gain access, and the battery cover/battery, etc on the driver's side. If you are good, you can get to the driver's side w/o removing battery stuff. Once you locate the wire/bulb, you need to turn to the left or right 1/4 turn and the bulb will pop out of the socket. Then, you will need to unplug the bulb from the wiring. Be careful when installing new bulb not to touch the glass as that may cause the bulb to heat up and break due to skin reside deposited and will heat up when turned on. Installation is reverse of removal. High beam bulbs are easier to access since they are more inboard and you can gain access to those without removing any other items.
Make sure you get the correct replacement bulb(s) first. See sources and related links below. You may want to replace both at the same time to keep brightness and color equal. Then consult your owner's manual. It will have a replacement procedure.
