stick an air freshener in the interior vent
No. You vent air from a sewer line.
You have to remove the vents of the air ducts. Then use a vacuum to remove any debris. After that you can use a stringy mop to dust the rest of the vent out.
I had similar symptom. Seems the door in the vent housing that selects recirculate or fresh air ( which is controlled by a vacuum valve ) broke. The pivot that controls the door movement snapped so the door falls down and blocks the incoming air flow thru the heater or air conditioner. End result very little air out of the vents. Pretty tough to repair the vent housing is against the firewall behind all the dashboard and the glov compartment. So you basicly have to remove the whole dash to get to the heater vent box. That's if it is the same issue I had. Jeep told me was $1000 to repair.
To remove and replace the heater core on the 1987 Nissan 300ZX with air, begin by removing the dashboard totally. This means the radio panel and the instrument cluster. Remove all air ducts and access the heater core. Remove the bolts holding the core and replace it with a new core. Then replace the dashboard and instrument panel.
It's a hard one. Coin a not ferromagnetic, thus you cannot "fish" it out. Your best bet is to try locating where the coin is and take apart that part of the vent system.
It is conveniently located on the passenger side forward surface of the defrost air distributor. To access it, remove the dashboard cover, remove the air conditioner controls and radio, remove all right side lower dashboard fasteners, noise deadening panels, etc, pull dashboard assembly away from firewall, rotate defrost air distributor slightly clockwise, and you can reach in and remove the module (grey) with a 7mm open end wrench this guy is exactly right.
if you look inside the vent. There 4 tabs two on bottom two on top. Use thin screwdriver to pull them and pull the vent at the same time.
You have to remove the instrument cluster and the trim beside the air outlet vent beside the cluster. There is a nut holding the threaded part of the switch collar around the shaft thru the dashboard panel. If you remove that nut, the switch can be pulled back and can be seen thru the hole made by removing the cluster.
in the glove box right hand corner undo the screws and pull out
An air admittance vent is a mechanical sewer vent which allows air to enter into the sewage system but does not allow exhaust of sewer gases.
the air vent is cold
