The drive belt is Serpentine so all you have to do is grab a 14mm socket and turn counter clockwise. This will force the pulley down enabling you to remove the belt.

To remove the accessory drive belt or the serpentine belt from the motor on a 1989 Sunbird, it is necessary to loosen the belt tensioner. Look for a pulley that has a bolt in a slot. Loosen the bolt and move the tensioner so there is a gap in the belt. Then remove the belt from each pulley.
Yes you can remove it and still drive the truck......
Remove the air intake duct, if necessary. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7 L. Install a breaker bar with hex-head socket to the drive belt tensioner bolt. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise in order to relieve tension on the accessory drive belt. Remove the accessory drive belt from the pulleys and tensioner. Slowly release tension on the drive belt tensioner. Remove the breaker bar and socket from the drive belt tensioner bolt. Clean and inspect the drive belt surfaces of all the pulleys. Route the accessory drive belt around all the pulleys except the water pump pulley and tensioner. Install a breaker bar with hex-head socket to the drive belt tensioner bolt. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise in order to relieve tension on the drive belt tensioner. Install the accessory drive belt under the water pump pulley. Install the accessory drive belt onto the drive belt tensioner. Slowly release the tension. Remove the breaker bar and socket from the drive belt tensioner bolt. Install the air intake duct, if necessary. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7 L. Inspect the accessory drive belt for correct alignment.
To install drive belt on a 1999 Kawasaki Prairie 400 4x4, access the engine area and remove the cover that holds the clutch. Remove the drive belt around the clutch at the right side of the engine. Replace with new.

if ur talking about a serpetine belt u remove the old one by releasing the tension on the belt by put a 1/2 drive ratchet into the tensioner pully and release the tension on the belt and remove it then follow the diagram on how to run the belt and then pull the tensioner and place belt with that pully into the pully drive run and then release and ur new belt is on
If you are referring to the Serpentine belt, you loosen no pulley. You simply remove tension from the belt. The tension is applied by the Idler Pulley. This is not a job for a novice. If you don't have to do it yourself, take it to a mechanic! To access the parts the inner fender skirt needs to be removed. It is a good idea to replace the TENSIONER PULLY AND THE IDLER PULLEY as long as you are going to do so much to replace the belt. Some have reported that either or both of these parts 'went out' shortly after replacing the belt. If that happens you have to redo this all over again. The parts don't cost that much so it is wise to do it all at once.Basically it goes like this; * Remove the Belt * Remove the Tensioner * Remove the Idler Pulley * Reverse process for installation Belt RemovalWARNING: Do not allow drive belt tensioner to snap back, as damage to drive belt tensioner or personal injury could result.1. Remove the screws and position the power steering fluid reservoir out of the way. 2. Remove the nut and the bolts and position the degas bottle out of the way. 3. Lift or rotate the automatic drive belt tensioner away from the drive belt. 4. Remove the drive belt. (I had to cut my belt to remove it at this point. It is virtually impossible to get it around the tensioner without removing the tensioner.)Tensioner Removal 1. Remove the bolt.2. Remove the pushpins and position the inner RH fender wall out of the way.3. Remove the drive belt tensioner.Belt Idler Pulley Removal1. Remove the belt; refer to Belt Removal.2. Remove the bolt.3. Remove the belt idler pulley.Installation is just a matter of reversing the steps for removal.Note: Make sure drive belt is properly installed on each pulley. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.FOR DRAWINGS OF THE PROCESS GO TO:http://www.automotiveforums.com/f282.html. Look for question on Belt for 4.7L Engine.
