On a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac : I believe the PCV valve is on the REAR of the drivers side engine valve cover ( between the valve cover and the firewall )

i have a 2003 and replaced mine .. if its 01 is like an 03 the fuel pump is inside the gas tank and it needs to be droped down and that runs around 270 to 320.. stupid expensive due to lots of labor but easy to fix.

It is located in an 01 in the back panel above the tire jack on a 6' rectangle box with wires coming out of it. You will need to pull back the plastic and look with a light.
