The Haynes manual wants you to remove the fan and the shroud as a unit. This requires disconnecting the electrical connections to the fan, removing the bolts that hold the fan/shroud to the car, and just slipping the shroud off it's mounting tabs and removing. NOTE; that Haynes recommends removing the negative battery cable before starting the job.
