If the vehicle is fuel injected the pump will be located in the tank. You have to remove the fuel tank and drop it down with a jack to access the pump located on top of the tank. If it is a truck you can loosen the bed and raise one side to by jack stands and access the pump. This procedure is prefferred because if there are any problems with the pump you can fix the problem without removing the tank. Once you have access to the pump you will remove a large ring clip that holds the pump assembly down in the tank. Then remove the assembly and locate the pump remove any screws and rewire the new pump if necessary. It is also preferred to purchase a fuel pump assembly because it is quick to install and comes with new connections, hoses, and a new fuel gauge float or sender. Also remember before dropping the tank, if SUV or car, to remove all hoses and connection. Do not damage and fuel lines as they are expensive and only availabe from the dealer. You may also have to purchase a fuel line disconnect tool from Ford or specialized dealer. I would recommend to have the tool to avoid damage to the lines as special quick connect connections hold the lines in place. If you have trouble performing this task purchase a Haynes automotive manual from autozone. If you have even more trouble take vehicle to a technician and make sure the person is qualified(ASE). Not to bring negative mind set , this job is a moderate task and can easy be done at home. If you are mechanically inclined just make sure to take your time and be easy with plastic parts no need to rush things and the full assembly will make the job a breeze.
