behind the passenger seat you will see a nut. unscrew it, left and remove the passenger seat. then you will see another bracket with 2 Allen screws. unscre those and you can lift off the main seat
turn petcock to off and take gas lines off then remove the two bolts onrear sides of tank , then remove your speedo cluster lift up then unplug the 2 wire clips and unscrew speedo , feed cable and wires through hole , now pull tank back toward seat as you lift up and that should take care of your problem
*REMEMBER* to always shut the gas off at the petcock before removeing the tank.
First you remove the plastic side covers just below the seat on the left and right side of the bike. Next you will see near the front of the seat and about 1inch below a metal tab with a bolt in it that mounts the seat to the frame of the bike on both sides, remove the two blots from the mounts on each side of the seat.
Now you grab the seat and gently pull it forward and up, be careful not the hit the tank. This will remove the seat from the rear slide in mount. The seat should now just lift straight off.
At the rear of the tank/front of the seat you will see a single bolt through the tank mount and in to the frame. remove that bolt.
Now, remove the gas line from the petcock and plug the end of the gas line with a small screw. Remove the vent line from the petcock.
left the tank from the back near the tank mount at a slight angle toward the front and gently pull the tank toward the rear of the bike, this will remove the tank from the front rubber mounts.
Your done!
Steps: 1.-remove the seat. 2.-remove the two small screws under the passanger gram handle 3.-pull up and back on the body work peice that connects the side panels together above the tail light 4.- Pull straight out on the front of the side covers directly under the gas tank (they are held in by rubber grommets and will pop right out 5.- remove the two bolts connecting the gas tank bracket to the subframe (they go straight in from the sides under the covers you just removed 6.- lift up the back of the tank just enough to turn off the fuel petcock and remove the fuel lines 7.- continue lifting the back of the tank while sliding the tank toward the rear of the bike, it should come right off
