Put a 21mm ring spanner on it, a block of wood under the spanner to the ground or to the suspension strut that goes across below the engine, then have someone hit the key to start the engine. DON'T really start it, just hit the starter so it will spin the crankshaft and the bolt will undo. Mine to about 3 hits of the starter to crack the bolt loose..

What could the problem be if a 1992 Pontiac Bonneville is making a loud knocking rattle noise but it is not smoking and still runs smooth?

Could also be the harmonic balancer. When they go bad they make a knocking noise when the engine is idling. If it has a rod or main bearing going bad it would NOT affect the way it runs so you could have a serious problem in the motor itself. If the rod or main is going out it will not run long like that. SORRY TO BE THE ONE TO TELL YOU THIS. Ray

Does the volume of the rattlesnake's rattle vary?

Young snakes with few segments on the rattle will be much lower in volume than a larger snake with a number of segments. However, if a snake lives a long life without losing rattle segments the rattle will become so long and heavy that it cannot be rattled easily and the sound, if any, will be subdued.

Why would snakes be dangerous without a rattle?

Rattlesnakes do not seek to attack humans. They use their rattles as a signal to warn animals, including humans, to not come closer. Without the ability to rattle, they couldn't give humans a warning before they might feel threatened enough to strike.
