By the bolts..... Just messing, Depends on what year you have. The All new ones should be the same. I have a 76 Iron Head I have 6 bolts for the valve cover when you take them off you will see four more bolts, they should be a hex 8 or 12 point if i can remember right. Once you pull those bolts the head should come right off. If they been on there awhile you might have to give a little love tape to separate from the gasket. It's relatively simple.
