To remove the ignition switch on a 1976 CJ7, first disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical shorts. Then, remove the steering column cover by unscrewing the screws holding it in place. Once exposed, locate the ignition switch, disconnect the wiring harness, and unscrew the switch from its mounting bracket. Finally, pull the switch out of the column to complete the removal.

hey, if you mean the the little cylinder thing in your colum, i am working and stuck on that at the moment, you have to pull your steering wheel off, take your blinker etc stuff out, then there are like 5 little holes and in the bottom of one of them there is a screw, you have to take that out and then the cylinder should pull out

The easiest way to remove an old brake light switch(also called stop light switch) is to break it off. Simply wedge a screwdriver between the switch and the metal bracket and twist. It will pop right out. The switch has 4 ledges that lock the stop-light switch into place. It's very difficult to remove without breaking it.
